want to share some clips with my wife & need help... I have downloaded several hot clips from WL and put them on a CD-R disc. most are in windows movie player file & only those with avi. or quicktime will play back on dvd player... I tried saving them as "all files" but no luck on playback... is it the cd or can I change format some other way..?? thanks

Hi, not all dvd players can play all type of files. You either need a newer dvd player that will have the codec to play wmv or use convertion software to convert the wmv to avi,mpeg4 before you burn the cd. Go to cnet site. They have convertion software. We use AVS it has a free trial and is only 29$ to buy. Works well, but there may even be a freeware out there that does this. We have sony's DVgate too, and it will do the convertion, but I dont care for that program and sony no longer supports it. A & M

ann's correct.
MANY DVD players are finicky about CoDecs (Coders-Decoders) even to the point of not playing DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs. Do a search on G**Gle too. WIN media player is an extreme compressed file type that is..."lossy" (look it up)-Clips frames- and that's why most DVD editors choke on using it. Get a decent converter/ joiner that will let you edit out some of the BACKLIGHTING folks are fond of using and extreme zooms for privacy. They would do better to find out how to "clip the frames to the area they want to show. The artifacts (colored dots in some) are caused by not enough light, but a good converter may be able to remove that "noise". Xilisoft has good stuff and it works good...but is not free. There are a HOST of others. MOST free/trial/shareware stuff will stick an "ADWARE" mask over your stuff...VERY distracting!!!
email me and I can give u more help.

You may have to convert the files to vcd. Nero is a good program but I'm sure you can find something on the net free that will convert the files
Open wmv (windows movie) in windows movie maker and re-save it as an .avi file. It would probably be usefull to download the D-I-V-x avi codec pack and install it on your computer also. No need to go to all the trouble of finding and purchasing 3rd party converters I think.
It works for us :-))
