Shutdown: Any Savings or More Spend cause of Shutdown

Does shutdown save any penny for tax payers or adds more costs to tax payers

It's government. I find it hard to imagine how they wouldn't find a way to waste money.

One obvious way, is they always give backpay to the furloughed employees. Those employees didn't output any work, but still get paid. And before anyone boo-hoos about these pitiful employees, anyone with common sense that accepts federal employment should anticipate inevitable, periodic shutdowns, have a savings nest egg put away for such times, and enjoy their free vacation. They aren't getting screwed. The only one getting screwed is the no-federal employee taxpayer.

Health care has been broken for years. If you think more spending will fix it you need to reevaluate the system.

Fire them and be done with it. Most are not needed. Why stop with just a shutdown and then pay for nothing needed again after. Fire Most of them and eliminate the useless agencies that don't matter really or don't help America. Trump needs to take advantage of the moment.

The government is shutdown? Who knew.

Basically just monies spent on private contractors/consultants. Gov't employees would get back pay even though they may not have worked.

of course, Trump may be using this as an opportunity to eliminate government departments and therefore there may be longer term savings from any eliminations done.

Also being used by the current administration to eliminate some key positions that don’t line up with their philosophies .

capertg, that's good thing to reduce fed workforce. Lots of these fed workers enjoy job security, fat paychecks, income security at the expense of tax payers money perform their duties are slow pace.

For better governance it's better to reduce the fed work force.

Important note: Sure. Governor t employees will get paid but man - they have their taxes taken out also.

So quit whining about the “free vacation” because it is t really free.

My understanding is republicans want a clean bill with no additional monies spent on junk. Dems want hundreds of billions for:
- extending Obama ACA subsidies rather than wait until the next full-budget negotiations
- Medicaid spending extendions rather than bring the program back to pre-pandemic spending levels
- block “pocket recessions” of the executive branch for funding retractions, like USAid for instance.

Republicans want a clean bill - keep spending at the same current levels until irr t s time to pass a new budget.
