Far-left extremist group Antifa was propelled back into the spotlight last month when President Donald Trump designated it as a domestic terror organization by executive order.
Earlier this week, two alleged members of the group were charged with providing material support to terrorists over an attack against law enforcement officers on July 5.
In this week's Top Story newsletter, we trace the origins of Antifa to Europe, where it was started as a united front program of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Russia in the early 1920s. It functioned as the violent wing of the Communist Party of Germany.
We also interview Andy Ngo, an independent journalist that was targeted by Antifa for his reporting and was forced to flee the country. Ngo explains that despite claims by the group of lacking a formal structure, it is in fact very organized.

It was started as an organization to counter the fascist rise of the Nazi party. So... if you are against Antifa, does that make you, Fascist/Nazi? Or, at least supporting Fascists or Nazis ?
Everything ANTFIA does represents the Nazi brown shirts. To call them anti fascist is a joke. They are fascists calling themselves anti fascists just uses the ignorants of the people about reality.

I personally think that protesting against the totalitarian regime that is the current US federal government is pretty much the definition of anti-fascist... The government getting citizens involved in enforcing the laws without proper accounting, that sounds like the Brown Shirts... But, you drink the bile the government is selling all you want.

NOt really, it was not "started as an organization to counter the fascist rise of the Nazi party." It was started as a competitor "fascism". The soviets sponsoring Antifa were International socialists, competing for power with the National Socialists. Two competitors vying for the exclusive privilege of screwing the rest of the population. AS to "Fascism" remember that Mussolini was a socialist before he was a fascist, and the Nazis implemented basic socialism before they ventured into genocide as a variation on killing their own handicapped and the LGBTQ. They are not "left" and "right", They are rival gangs duking it out for power.
