just curious, how many illegals are getting snap?

The reason I asked SNAP has increased way more than normal .

In 2020 the worst year of covid SNAP increased from about 70 billion dollars to 90 billions, but the past four years it averaged about 110 billion dollars. You would have thought that SNAP would have gone down after covid but it increased.

The last recession was in 2007-2009 when SNAP increased from 20 billion per year to 35 billion.

During President Trumps first year SNAP was decreased from 90 billion to 75 billion per year

So why the big increase the past four years when illegals received the benefit

This has to be fake news I remember hearing several left officials said 4 years ago that illegals would not get any Beni’s.

I saw an article that said about 60% of illegals/immigrants are collecting snap benefits.

A simple way to prove the myths of undocumented people getting SNAP, TANF/cash, Medicaid and/or ACA is to read the COMBINED MANUALS for each of the programs. They are available on line.

They all clearly state that a undocumented person, including DACA individuals are not eligible for any Federal assistance programs and ACA.
Although some DACA people might be eligible for State funded programs.
One must have a social security number, which is verified, a green card or other legal papers to be in the USA.

The only help an undocumented person might be eligible for is EMA(emergency medical assistance) which cover a specific illness or injury, but even that program has income/assets requirements and if the requested information is not received by the assistance office the application will be denied.

Even the legal immigrants(LPR/Refugees/Asylees}, have eligibility requirements for the assistance. As in a LPR person must be in the USA for a minimum 5 years and their sponsors income/assets count towards eligibility.

Also even USA citizens can be denied benefits if they do not provide their social security number. (we give parents of newborns 1 year to provide the baby's social security number/proof one has been applied for).

That is just the basics-- all household also must meet other requirements, including income and for some programs, assets limits.

In the 30+ years I've worked in public assistance, the only cases that I've found that have received benefits and where not eligible are people who are legally eligible and failed to report all their income. Yes, they are found out and have to pay back the benefits they received.

Again read the COMBINED MANUALS for the different assistance programs and stop believing the articles full of misinformation. FYI: did you know that many of the legislatures have no clue of the policies and rules for public assistance and have never read the Combined Manuals--or know they exist. (yes I've asked)

Opps forgot to answer the 1st question of why the increase of SNAP benefits.
SNAP benefits normally increase yearly, every October, based on the cost of living. Not only the max benefit amount but also the gross and net income limits.
Why are more people on assistance is that their income is not rising as quickly as the cost of living or they have been laid off work or got injured and cannot work or any number of reasons that they are below the gross and net income limits

All that is bypassed in California as a sanctuary state, they get everything here.

And they vote as well.

I have no problem with those who are truly in need of the benefits but don't want one cent of my tax dollars going to illegals. I also know of people collecting benefits as a way of living who refuse to work because they'll lose these benefits. Not looking to support them either.

On a side note, I've watched food bank administrators stating how unfair it is that folks are losing these earned benefits. Can anyone explain how these benefits were "earned".

Households led by illegal immigrants are getting SNAP for their children born here.

The parent can be illegal, not be eligible but still can get SNAP for their kid(s) born here, the kids are US citizens.

One thing Dems will not admit is 99% of children of the 11 million Biden let in will forever be on SNAP, free lunches, etc.

There are some exceptions for illegals to qualify for SNAP, but before Biden, most were not allowed to get SNAP.

But the people controlling Biden made sure many of the 11 million were granted asylee status, and humanitarian parolee status which allowed them to get SNAP and many more benefits.

I was at the border off and on while this was going on, they were granting this status without a hearing and the Dem led NGOs would give them a "starter kit" with info on all the benefits they were eligible for.

I am Hispanic, the Texas border is mostly Hispanic, very few of us were supporting this.

Hispanics at our border are hard working people, they did not like it at all and it reflected in their votes for President last election.

I can't blame people for coming from a bad place to a place that gives free stuff away.

But being in debt for over 30 trillion dollars, we are heading to a fiscal crisis with no plan to avoid it, we can't afford to take care of the world anymore.

In California its a lot more than one in ten. At least half the people I know have a ebt card. More than half actually. Many people cut hours back to stay under the 1,700 a month just to get free medical. Some stores its nothing but 4 foot tall field workers or something and every single one has a overflowing cart and a card. I am usually the only while person there when in several stores. The schools are more than 60 percent the same. 90 percent in some towns. Wasn't that way before Communist Biden. If you don't speak mui rapedo Español, don't bother to apply. Si on cinquinta is all in Spanish commercials as well. No on 50 in California or its going to be worse.

IDK, I am not against feeding hungry people or helping the poor.

At the same time, I am a strong advocate for helping people improve their situation, help them get to a better place so they do not have to rely on the government.

Limiting what foods can be purchased with SNAP is complicated, requires coding, signage, education campaigns etc.

But I have also seen people at the local QT gas station loading up on chips and sodas with the SNAP card, and there is a grocery store with real food a block away.

And I have seen people selling the use of their SNAP dollars on Facebook Marketplace, they typically get 50 cents on the dollar for them.

A store in the DFW area was busted for giving cash for SNAP card use, I am sure that goes on everywhere.

But I also feel bad for the people that actually need the SNAP benefits.

Growing up, at times my family struggled financially, my father is a hard working proud man, he would work two jobs so our family had what we needed, the thought of government benefits was never an option in his eyes, men work, men do what it takes to provide.

I think in large part, that work ethic is gone, many people expect handouts now.

But the fact is, not everyone can be successful, some will always be poor, in a nation a rich as ours, poor people should not go hungry.

It is a complicated.

I have always worked two jobs. Insomniac workaholic. I turned down a contract recently, because it wasn't worth it when it would cost me 80 percent of it in taxes. I don't want to work just to give it away for illegals who don't work. So many people are indoctrinated in California that they are owed. They seem OK living with so little, or the wealthy are taxed so much, they are leaving California for Texas. I am not rich or poor however I have zero debt so that is good. I do donate a few hundred a month to help people. But it is getting ridiculous in California. Complicated, you bet.

@mistified, the bulk of my family is in Texas but have extended family all over, many in California and the Michigan/Ohio area.

The Family in Texas is mostly hard working many are successful business owners, very few play the victim card like some do here, that just is not us.

The family in the north is mostly union, half have socialist beliefs but they work.

The family in Cali, way over half are ok with criminal activity and most get state assistance.

Occasionally one of my Cali family will get busted for fraud but typically they get let go or get a slap on the wrist.

Two were bragging about raking in 7k each per month during COVID, the state did very little to verify anything, they just handed out benefits.

It is a lifestyle for many minorities there, they are raised that way, the Dems have them convinced they are handicapped and deserve free stuff.

I like your comments on California, I am glad some see that the things I say about California are seen by others as well.

It isn't just minorities, plenty of white tweekers are indoctrinated the same. Lots of crazy white women as well. Wherever a university goes in is the worst as seen in other states too.

The over regulations are killing the pursuing. Smog laws in California are so stupid, people will get another car just because they can't figure out how to get around a check engine light.
