Uvalde shooting trial

Watched the trial. Adrian Gonzales tried for not responding to the shooting. I could not believe when the shooter was shooting into the school rooms through the windows. Why he did not take a shot at him. Also how did the kid get $6000 of weapons. Then how did the kid know what door did not lock? Out of all the doors this scum bag picked the unlocked door on the first try.

With the ammo, maybe 3500 worth, I think I read somewhere that he used his grandmothers credit card, I could be wrong though.

Because it was the biggest clusterfuck by law enforcement officials ever! He bought the weapons locally when he turned 18, he also had a history of problems. Hal Harrell was the superintendent at the time and took a lot of heat, I can assure you he was a good man.

Certain crimes and behavior committed by teens should not just go away because the person turns 18, all should not be forgiven.

If you have committed violent acts or threatened to kill people at 16, that should prevent you from purchasing a firearm at 18.

Agree sam but he hadn’t been diagnosed with a mental disorder prior to the shooting. If his grandmother lent him her card he paid her back by shooting her after buying the guns.

Salvador and his mother were constantly at odds end and arguing with each other, not sure why he didn’t shoot her instead of the grandmother.

It’s been in the news every day of the trial here. I’m not sure why all the blame falls on one person when all the LE stood ground instead of going in.

Looks like jury is deliberating and will come back with a verdict.

While it seemed to be a cowardly thing to do, being deathly afraid isnt against the law. It happens all the time.
In this situation, it had deadly results.
I know he took the job, and swore an oath to serve and protect, but he never thought he would be called on to run into the gunfire ,by himself, and most likely die in the process.
Fire him, take his pension, but prison for being afraid?

Cops who get in shoot outs nowadays are supposed to shoot people in the leg and if they hit their target their lives are ruined with the noise that will be heard for years afterwards! Thats why he didn’t take his shot!

Why bother with a investigation? None needed. No crime, just a idiot? Cops are always pussy about protecting kids or anything. They are smoke and mirror. Tell him to plead guilty to a felony and lose his job doing a year or he will get several years. Make sure he pays several thousand and has probation up his azz every week. Send him to anger management for a year also and look down on him entire time. Even though he didn't commit anything but insubordination. It wasn’t just Uvalde Police that showed up, there were Texas Department of public safety troopers, US border patrol agents, FBI, ATF, and US marshals. Totaling nearly 400 officers.

@nazpete 9:30, @wilmadikfit 4:53, i begrudgingly agree. As much as we want to find blame beyond the cowardly shooter, I don’t support finding someone guilty for the human act of freezing in a scenario that no amount of training can fully prepare you for.
It just makes me more impressed with those cops who do willingly put their life on the line in their duty to protect and serve (I mean REAL cops, not ICE agents).
But despite the horrific tragedy and failure of the police and the oath they swore, they failed as police but to hold them criminally accountable is not something I can get behind.

Well then we have quite a lack of training...400 froze? Amazing. Fire all of them and replace them with combat vets, they are the real deal and will not freeze or pussy.

@mistified I agree with you, but the majority of those cops who hesitated to proceed were following orders.
As we're seeing with ICE, lack of training is very problematic. I haven't read or heard anything to suggest the Uvalde situation was a lack of training as much as a couple of specific individuals who froze. They are essentially cosplaying as law enforcement which is not uncommon in small towns. They signed up traffic violations and dealing with drunks fighting.
I have no sympathy for them, don't get me wrong. I'm not a cop but I hope I would run in to a school to do anything to stop or at least delay a shooter, so decency alone should have made them run in.
But fundamentally, I just don't like establishing a precedent that failure to respond to a criminal act for fear of your own life makes you guilty of committing a crime too.

Part of the problem was with all the different types of LE nobody knew who was in charge and nobody took charge. As soon as the two border patrol agents from Del Rio arrived they went in and took out Salvador.

If any one of us said stand around and wait, we would be charged with obstruction. The jocks showed how mentally challenged they really are. Maybe most of you don't have experience with cops. They are the blind leading the blind at best.

Decency itself should have made them run in,,,exactly..you nailed that.

Ya,,,didn't take charge,,no real men there..I have had to take charge before with cops and and boy were they surprised when they found out I was a fed. Working for the department of interior. They would let their own mother pass to save money and are incompetent. Lots more to that really, but I will be nice.
