By dirtyred50 on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 7:19 am:

Good morning all. Thanks MrsBR for starting the thong thread and the hot cup of USA caffeine. 66F today and will reach 80F by afternoon under clouds.

The bottom will fall out in a few days when old man Winter reaches the RGV. We may see some freezing temps here by Sunday.

Will do my daily 3.5 then run a few errands before going to the woodshop. Laid back day here in the valley.

Stay safe and warm up north. We won't see exploding trees down here.

By assmens on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 7:23 am:

By mrscountrygirl on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 7:30 am:

Morning gang, thanks for kicking things off with the coffee and the eye candy br. Lost track of what day it is, but I knew it wasn't Friday since x_rey hadn't started us off.
It's 21 headed to 40 today, but tomorrow things take a nosedive for a few days. Getting things ready for the cold and snow coming our way.
Morning en, 59, yes, frog, bc, 50, ass.
En I've never seen that warning before. We just get the breaking limbs and weak trees breaking off warnings.
Hope the test turns out good ass.

By dialedin200 on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 7:32 am:

Good morning all. Thank you for the eye candy this morning ladies. Latest prediction for snow in the mid Atlantic states is now estimated to be in feet, not inches. 0ne to two feet predicted in my area.

By mrscountrygirl on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 7:33 am:

Mrsbr looks lonely posting by herself.

By mrscountrygirl on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 7:38 am:

Morning 200. Be careful up there, last I looked we were in he 4 - 8 inches predictions. Which means we'll either get an inch or less or 30 inches.

I see we have some new, ahem, faces joining in today. Thank you ladies and welcome.

By enjoyaunatural on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 3:21 pm:

Sorry, I didn't get back to respond to those asking about exploding trees.

Yes, it is real. You don't normally see it in a weather report though. If you're a hunter and spend time out in the bitter cold, you've probably heard a tree or two go BANG! It'll scare the crap out of you! Pieces don't really go flying, at least not in my experiences, but the trees and limbs will split open with a very loud BANG!
My wife actually mentioned a couple of days ago she heard a bang and thought something hit our roof. I told her it was probably a wooden truss in our attic that made the noise. She said if our dog was still alive, he would have freaked out!

By mrscountrygirl on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 4:52 pm:

En it sounds like 'frost quakes' we get from time to time. Those happen when we have a lot of ground water and when extreme cold moves in it freezes the water quickly. That causes the ice to expand and it cracks the soil or rocks. It'll sound like a shotgun going off, and at times you'll feel a tremor if it's close to you. It can also crack your driveway or foundation if it happens close to them.

By enjoyaunatural on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 5:21 pm:

Country exactly!

The moisture in the trees freezes abruptly causing this, due to extreme temperature changes that happen quickly.
