We will be making a Beef Stew this morning for the clean up later.

All the News is taking about is the snow storm and scaring people.
Yes let us know but this is too much we can not do anything about Mother Nature.

Jersey, I'm in Wisconsin. We aren't in the path of that big ice and snowstorm, but we have the extreme below zero cold. Wind chills -35- to -56°

We are currently at almost 70 degrees. Soon to be in the single digits to teens.

What we have to worry about is when the warm air and the cold air collide. So far our weather guy is optimistic that it wont be much of a problem this time.

37F and feels like 28F with the 16mph wind here in the RGV. My daily walk is in jeopardy for sure. Will however go to the gym later for a vigorous workout. I expect it will be crowded.

No schedule today. Will stay in except for a couple hours in the gym. I may catch up on some administrative B.S. I have been putting off and enjoy reading this page. Mrs Red plans to make a big pot of chili and will enjoy that later. Hope everyone is staying safe and warm.

Morning gang, thanks for the coffee and spread yes, biggest hit by far is the Mrs.
Morning en, 59, 50.
Been up a couple hours now, seems the majority of the storm has rolled through, still coming down but it should be out of here early afternoon. It's 9 degrees with a windchill of -12 right now. Haven't gone outside but it looks to be 7 or 8 inches of fluffy rain on the ground and they say another inch or two still to come so we'll have 8 - 10 inches total after all is said and done.

We're staying inside today, tomorrow, however long it takes for this crap to melt. Forecasted temperatures that may be awhile.
Today's agenda is drink a pot of coffee, make sure the furnace is still running, make a pot of chili and let it simmer, watch football games, eat chili, complain about the cold. There it is, full day.

YesRej:
1. Yes, we have a power system that is pretty reliable, but the infrastructure inside the park is somewhat questionable. We had a power outage a few weeks back but was quickly resolved.
2. Beans in chili is punishable by jail time in Texas. MrsRed knows how to do it correctly.

MrsC, we will follow the same protocol. Don't plan to get out unless absolutely necessary, or if I get bored. Will go to gym to work out since I do not want to go for my 3.5 mile walk in this weather.

As far as chilli goes we always used the beans because my mother did. Here in Jersey you get Hotdog with Chilli sauce there no beans in it. I hate the beans they never taste good. So next time no beans we will drop them off at mrscountrygirl house

Red beans, lean beef and pork mixture, onions, onion power, garlic powder, chili powder light red sauce sea salt ground pepper cooked slowly for at least three hours.

Yes if we're all hanging in there I guess we're doing okay. I'll take the beans, I use them in other recipes as well.

Josh welcome to the coffee thread, and I love the way you introduce yourself with the great eye candy.

I'll use hamburger if that's all I have, but I prefer making it with a 50/50 mix of hamburger and deer burger. Red beans, onion, garlic and onion powder, sliced fresh mushrooms, a little cumin, salt, pepper, chili powder. I'll add some hot sauce to my bowlful, but the Mrs. doesn't like heat in her food so I keep it out of the pot. If I'm cooking for parties I'll make two pots, one with the hot sauce and peppers and one without.

Country, I make my chili very similar to your recipe, but no cummin. I also have pork in there with euer venison or hamburger. I often cut up a package of bacon in tiny tiny pieces so the wife doesn't know. I cook that down slowly to render the fat first, then start adding the venison and or hamburger. I also add pearl onions to every pot of soup or chili I make. And what is chili without macaroni noodles?

country, almost all of ours is made with venison or goose. Goose makes excellant chili! Of course Katie won't eat if if I use game.

En I like what cumin does for the chili, but you have to be careful because a tiny bit goes a long way. I add just a very little bit at a time, let that simmer awhile and if it's not enough just a tad more until I get it where I want it. Too much and the whole potful is going in the trash can. And if I make way too much (which is just about every time I make it) and we don't freeze it I will on occasion have chili mac or pour it over a bed of rice. Never made it with bacon, but may try that. After all, what ISN'T better with bacon?
MD I've never had goose chili, but then I don't goose hunt so I guess that's why. Do you just make it like you would with venison or hamburger? And if katie busts you over using game she didn't hear it from me, LOL.
Rd it makes the best chili in my opinion, and the Mrs. agrees as does everybody that eats it.

Finished my two cups of coffee and then made an egg, bacon and cheese taco. We got freezing rain overnight as predicted so I’m staying in and keeping warm.

I make chicken chili and use white beans as well as fire roasted tomatoes and top it with shredded Parmesan cheese

Stay safe there jack, that ice sucks! I like a chicken chili once in a blue moon.
I stand corrected. I went out and measured and we have 12 1/2 inches of fluff on the ground. Wonderful.

Chili needs to cook all day in my opinion usually turn off the burner let it sit then heat it up on and off most of the day

Just did my first pass on our driveway. It is brutal out there!!!

Well we just finished making our beef stew this morning. I see a lot of Opinion on beans or not to have beans in ur Chili.

Rd I've always said the chili always tastes better the next day. I'll make and start simmering it in about an hour and do a slow simmer and stir it till around 7 or 8 this evening and then dig in.
Just do a little at a time hawk.
Yes I started to make stew but it's been awhile since I made chili so it won out.

Mrscountrygirl glad you are making Chili I want to but it's been years since we made Beef Stew. And we made Chili last month
