Discussions: Can movies go back to English

I remember when it didn't matter what country the character was from in a movie, they could even be an alien and everyone spoke English. I get it, it's a big world and everyone has their own language but it was so much nicer when just everyone spoke English in an English movie. This constant reading of subtitles is unnecessary.

Am I the only one?

What are you watching? Everything is in English but some of the commercials and I skip those. I won't watch gibberish.

By scottdale on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 - 10:03 pm:

I'm not saying the entire movie is in a foreign language, I'm talking about secondary characters

"Can movies go back to English"

Are you talking about the Melania movie?

By rogr on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 - 2:17 am:

Subtitles are a great way to learn a foreign language.

Everything is not in English. Some of my favourite films are not. You close yourself off to so much if you only look for English speaking films.

Thats why your tv comes eqipped with CC…..

By samandkim2020 on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 - 9:55 am:

Mixed languages in films are typically to make the film more realistic.

But sure, we can go back to all English so you do not have to read the subtitles, let me call all my Hollywood contacts and make that happen for you. Hahahahaha

Hollywood is largely social justice motivated when it comes to content but very much market driven when it comes to the products they produce.

As long as consumers keep buying their products they will keep producing them as is.

Think of the impact it would have if for one year every Trump voter did not go to a movie, watch a pay per view or pay to download new music.

Of course a boycott like that will never happen.

By coddiwompler2 on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 - 10:22 am:

recently watched a show that had many nationalities in the characters, when it was other than English more times than not the CC would read "speaking **** language " WTF is the point of the CC LOL

I prefer Foreign films to be dubbed in English(spoken)...because with sub titles, I spend all the time reading...and miss all the action...that's a bummer.

By mistified on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 - 3:20 pm:

Sam,,,I have boycott hollyvierd for over ten years. And Los Angeles has taken over the coastal areas north of them as well. I won't spend a penny in any of the new businesses they own.I like local businesses that have been around for 40 years or more. Fuck Los Angeles and Satanist hollyvierd.

Sometimes the subtitles are the same color as some of the background which makes it almost impossible to read.

Hey, I like it when the Klingons speak Klingon. Seems more real. "K'Pla.....

The Melania movie now plays on all coast to coast flights. Helps get rid of Democrats. As soon as it starts, they walk out.

Would not mind Milania so much if they took off Kindergarten Cop from airlines.
