You definitely handled the situation incorrectly.

I agree with the earlier posters that your wife was cheating on and this is not the same as sharing her.

You should have confronted your wife and let her know that her cheating is unacceptable and cannot happen again, but then gone on to explore the idea of opening up the marriage, but with her being open and honest with you about her activities.

But you did the worst possible thing. You confronted John and told him to stay away from your wife, but said nothing to your wife. John almost certainly told your wife that you knew about her cheating. Then by not confronting your wife, you let her know that she could cheat with no consequences and that would encourage her to cheat more in the future.

I would also agree with luv2sharher that being in the room her is the best, but getting sloppy seconds when she gets home and hearing her tell you all about what she did can be a lot of fun as well.

When we first entertained sharing my wife it was tough to figure out who to try to get involved with. We didn’t want any friendships to get weird or to advertise.
