well it isnt an actual swingers club--but on sat nights there is a very swinger/lifestyle friendly crowd---it seems like a very reg dance bar untill you see people making out and dancing close--

We had our first MFM start at Hartz...We'd found out about the place on another site. Havent been back there in quite awhile, was wondering if it still was in business or if it had changed hands.

Anyone been to Hartz recently? Is the atmosphere much different than when it was Jenro's? Drink specials? Food? Music? Typical crowd? Vbwanker for drinks sometime?

Hartz is down at the other end of the shopping center from Jenro's. It is still in business (so is Jenro's) and is still the same type of place that it has always been. Went there a week or so ago.

Jenro's the cafe or the bar? Is Hartz in the same location as the old chinese restruant? I can never keep up with the shopping centers around here...

Jenro's is the cafe and Hartz is the bar. You must have lived in the area a long time to remember the chinese place that is now Hartz. As far as the music goes it from a DJ and is upbeat and fast later in the night, but there are enough things to dance to (fast and sweaty as well as belly rubbing slow) for everyone. The typical crowd is a mixed bag of young and old. It is a bit slower this time of the year though. I dont know about food or drink specials.

Thanks, avrtr. I was oer in that directon last night , so I took the opportunity to drive by and get a look at the place. From the parking lot, it's pretty much the same. Guess I'll have to actually go in one night, right?

Yup, I've been in the area since '79 and lived in Aragona Village until '92. My folks still live over there.

Does anyone know if there are any after-hours clubs left in Virginia Beach?

Jenro's had 2 locations in the same shopping center. The cafe (to the right, as you are facing the shopping center) and the club (at the end, where Hartz is now). The club side is where the classic cars would show up saturday nights. (Has since moved to Giant Square shopping center.) I used to live in the apartments just on the other side of the school, across from Bayside hospital, and went there occasionally. Just cruised by a few days ago to verify the location.

So, the question is - when are we all going? ;^)

Didn't know Jenro's the bar was still in business. I just assumed that it had gone the way of pretty much every bar in the area at one time or another. Good to hear that it's still around. I'd still love to check out "Hartz", though.

And I think everyone has lived in those apartments! It must be the law or something...

You are right about the two parts of Jenro's. As far as the car meet, it is still at Jenro's on warm saturdays. And it overflows/moves/migrates to the Giant Shopping Centerlater in the day.

I for one vote that we all hook up at Hartz on a Saturday night(After 10) for an informal meet n greet.

Just so everyone knows: Thursday nights at Hartz is "Goth" night. It wasn't very busy at all when I went in last night, mostly a few guys playing pool and the odd handful of younger folks in black. All in all, it was a nice group and the DJ was kind enough to flirt with me and buy me a couple of drinks

I was in Hartz last Saturday and thought the folks here would be VERY interested to know that it does indeed look like a "hot wife" crowd! Lots of couples, beautiful women in scanty dress dancing quite provocatively, and their men encouraging them! Only thing I didn't like was the music was a bit lame. I mean, how many times do we have to hear "The Electric Slide"?! Anyway, I had a good time eventhough I was alone. I didn't feel pestered or creeped out in any way.

UPDATE! Heard on the radio this morning Hartz burned up last night. Looks like the fire started from a stray cigarette.

So, where do we go now?!?

Went by there a couple of days ago and there is a sign on the door saying that they are going to remodel the place. There were a couple of contractors there and they were working on the place.

Hopefully, they'll be done soon. So, any ideas for where to go in the mean time?

There is another place in the area. It is in Norfolk on Military Hwy between Norview Ave and Azalea Garden Rd. You may have seen it advertised on the radio or the TV. It is called Git-R-Done. It is a Sports bar that has a live band on Friday and Saturday night. It is known to be lifestyle friendly.

That place has changed hands an awful lot. Last time I was in there it was the Circle K Lounge, and then it was the Firehouse or something. When last I was there, it was pretty rough...

The place that you are referring to is farther down the road. This place was Lee's most lately. I met the owners of the place (Git-R-Dun) at a party this past weekend and they said that things are doing great there. In fact,they are going so well that they are opening a new place on Bonney road at the old Varsity Club location. They are great people and I am sure that this location will go great guns also. BTW Git-R-Dun is VERY lifestyle friendly.

What else can you tell us about Git-R-Dun, av8tr? What kind of music do they play on the jukebox? Do they have a dance floor? What's on the menu? Etc...

The name of the place immediately put me off as I am completely burned out on the whole "redneck" chic thing that's going on and I cringe to think that this might be a country sports bar. Just not my bag!

Well VB, I went to a house party over the Fourth and found out from the Host and Hostess (they owned the bar Git-r-dun and they sold it to a new owner) they are going to open a new place near Virginia Beach Blvd around the Thalia/Rosemont area. It is supposed to be in the old club that was called the Varsity Club.

It is slated to open around the first of Aug. or so. BTW they are great people to get to know. Since that is right around the corner from me. I will show up and get the intel on it to pass on.

I'm going to be in VB 8/1 to 8/4. What's going to be open?

Has anyone been by Hartz lately? Are repairs fineshed? Are they open yet?

I went by Hartz last night, it was still closed and the marquee said to watch for updates ....coming soon. No definite answer on an opening date though..

hey all club HARTZ is slated to reopen on october 8TH saturday---sat was always couples dance party night--we are planning on going--it would be nice to actually meet some of the others here from WL--let us know if interested--and hopefully see yall soon

i used to go to Hartz with my ex all the time. we had our first meet and greet there. it is a very nice place. i think i will have to step in there this weekend. i am a single swinger now but i would love to meet some of you.

From what I know about the place from a friend of mine, it reopened on Saturday Oct. 8 and the place was wall to wall....I live near there and I will have to check it out again..anyone else have more info?

Just to let you all know Hartz is open now. They did a pretty good job making it a little more club friendly but the dance floor is still small.

Haven't seen any recent posts is this thread. Jimnva - What night did you go? Is it still Goth night on Thursdays?

WB its not goth anymore. its a couples friendly bar. Open cautious flirting is allowed. Saturday is the best day to go after 9pm.

Was in Hartz last night with a very sexy friend (he knows who he is) and I gotta say it looks really nice in there now! As it was a Monday, it was very quiet, so we were able to have a nice conversation without yelling. It looks more open and inviting and it's a whole lot easier to just walk around.

It also looks like they have regular amateur night-type contests for the ladies.

Yeah, it's pretty nice inside - WAY better than it was back in the Jenro days. Can't say much about the scene, as it really was dead dead dead that night.

Besides, I didn't pay attention to much besides the hottie at the table with me - You know who you are, too (lol).

robs - When we were there, it was mostly the after work happy hour crowd. Bunch of blue collar guys enjoying a beer. I'll have to check on a weekend.

In case there was any doubt-

I was in Hartz on a (very) quiet Monday and got to talking with the bartender. She confirmed that Saturday nights are DEFINITELY a swingers crowd! She also confirmed that there are all types that show up- young, older, short, tall, thin, plump, and everything in between.

Is the place set now that would make it easy for physical contact in the bar?

robs - How do you mean? The layout is pretty much exactly the same as before (virtually unchanged from the '80s). There are a few booths and tables scattered everywhere, but it's not like they have any really private areas (never did).

hartz is supose to be changing there music forum. we went by there last night and the place was pretty dead. Time too find a new club to hang at for sure.

Jim- Did you happen to catch what they're changing to? I really hope Hartz isn't trying to chase out the Saturday swingers crowd. They haven't been able to attract big groups since the late 80's/early 90's. It'd be a shame if they changed things too often. People don't know what to expect so they stop going. Too bad because that place has been around forever. *sigh*

It only took me 20 minutes to hook up with a chick 10 years younger. NSA! I think I like this place.
